    DOUGLAS DAFOE and GEORGE SMALL

Long-time friends, Douglas DaFoe and George Small are joined together in this two-man exhibition.
Douglas DaFoe is a Santa Barbara native. He worked locally as a cabinet maker and general contractor for 40 years. As a craftsman, he developed a strong interest in mid century modern architecture and furniture, as well as how precise attention to detail could produce clean, inviting forms. Now retired, DaFoe continues to work with wood as a fine artist. In his work, he focuses on the play of light and color, shapes and dimensions, angles and proportion to give each piece its own life and expression.

George Small, the now-retired founder and director of The Art Studio in Santa Monica, is a multi-media artist, working with steel sculpture, painting, drawing, film, and photography. In his most recent work, Small transfers photo collages by press to paper, then reworks them with an assortment of media.
Combining media in a unique two-dimensional format, Small seeks to synthesize two and three-dimensional space. He grounds the resulting ambiguity of space with imagery and story, layering and merging images from our collective past with the contemporary.
